Our Portfolio

These are only a small sample of the hundreds of projects Shoe has completed over the past 40 years. He has extensive Tenant Improvement Experience in addition to a very well rounded portfolio of Core Shell/Seismic Retrofit/Residential and Green Building projects to support his claim of being well diversified. He’s driven by challenge and has never been afraid of any project regardless of the complexity.

Benson Tower

Client/GC: Joe Weston | Role: Owner's Representative/Consultant/Finish Superintendent (2008)

The first true “Point Tower” constructed in Portland, this structure was being poorly managed, was months behind schedule, and was of very poor quality.  I was initially retained to act as a liaison between the owner and contractor by serving as the owner’s field representative.  However, after a few months, it had become clearly apparent the G.C. was not fully vested in the project and I took over the entire project through completion including all new owner purchase orientations and warranty work. .  We finished all units within their contracted close dates and achieved an industry low 3.01 deficiency per unit. I continue to represent Mr. Weston for any issues that arise at the tower.

The most outstanding qualities that Shoe has demonstrated are integrity, honesty, problem solving, people skills, and dedication… He is a self starter and worked whatever hours were required to get the job done, meaning late nights and long weekends. He can be trusted completely in whatever task is assigned to him.”

The Breathe Building

The Breathe Building | Client/GC: Chris Calerco | Role: Take-Over Owner Representative, Site Superintendent (2015)

I was enlisted by a first time building owner/developer/GC to re-start a failed project acting as the job site representative and superintendent.  This project had nearly every possible challenge in the industry and needed a complete analysis and overhaul of processes, budget, subcontractor commitments, staffing, and even work in place. This project was initially slated to achieve the first privately funded “Living Building Challenge, LBC” designation in the USA. (This highest level of environmentally responsible structure possible) The building was completed in 10 months and has receiving many awards (including Energy Trust of Oregon Renovation of the year 2015) as one of the most environmentally responsible structures in the Country.

Shoe turned my project completely around and from a potentially disastrous situation he created the Energy Trust of Oregon’s Top Performing Renovation of 2016… I am incredibly proud to walk into the building and my dream would simply have not become a reality without Shoe.

St. Mary’s Academy

Client/GC: St Mary's Academy/R&H Construction | Role: Project Superintendent/PM (1991-2003)

Superintendent on 15 phases of construction including the addition of a 3rd floor to the structure and a complete new auditorium in the center of this all girl private school. These two large phases were performed while school was in session.  All other phases including an extensive seismic upgrade were required to be completed during summer break.

I was very touched when I visited with your representatives, Ev Galloni and Mike Schuster. They demonstrated beautiful team spirit, company pride and integrity. It is clear that this would never have resulted were it not for cost consciousness (without compromising quality) throughout the project.”

— Christina L. Friedhoff, President St. Mary’s

First Republic Bank

Client/GC: First Republic Bank/Swinerton Builders |Role: Ops Manager/Project Manager (2010)

This two story Historic Building in Downtown Portland required a total renovation, seismic upgrade, and high end tenant improvement.  Despite the buildings deteriorated condition, we incorporated elements such as spiral brass staircases, glass encased offices, water features, and exotic hardwoods.

Port of Oakland

Client/GC: Port of Oakland/Swinerton Builders | Role: TI Superintendent (1989).

This 7 story structure built for the Port of Oakland was my first Commercial TI.  Using hi-tech finishes and design, this project received the Interiors Magazine Project of The Year award.   An earthquake registering 8.3 on the Richter Scale at this location (2nd largest recorded..this project was on land-fill) damaged the building 3 months before opening.  Miraculously, due to the latest seismic engineering, the damages were not extensive.  This experience gave me a true appreciation for addressing building seismic engineering.
